Mayfair is a vibrant Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood, home to a variety of stores, pubs and restaurants and the proud host of community events all year long. The Civic Association consists of volunteer citizens focused on the betterment of their Community.
Our General meetings are held the 3rd Monday of March, May, September and November and the 4th Monday of January at 7PM at the Mayfair Community Center, St. Vincent St. and Battersby St.
Yesterday (10/1/19), the School District of Philadelphia as well as the developer (Gilbane) and their attorneys presented their case before the Philadelphia Civic Design Review Board for approval. We were VERY fortunate to have representatives / residents from the community there as well fighting for what is in the best interest of the community.
Attached is one of the photographs that was used during the presentation, which is very misleading.
The Community Field pictured as well as Field 1 and Field 2 are NOT included in this project and will NOT be built during construction of the new school!
The School District has replied to our Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) and they have stated that they intend to develop the fields, however they have not given a timeline for this project. The School District has also remained vague with our other requests as well. Follow up questions remain unanswered.
After seeing the presentation during our September 16th Civic meeting (our first time seeing it), we realized that there is insufficient parking, the roadway to the new school is narrow, and were left wondering why the new school isn't being built to house the larger number of students projected to attend in the very near future.
The next public hearing is before the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Approval on Wednesday October 16th, and we'll need as many people as possible to attend in order for our voices to be heard. If you can attend this very important hearing, please email us at MayfairCivicAssociation@yahoo.com
