Festivities were held at Rowland Ave at Vista St.
Sunday, March 17, 2013 from 11am to 2pm

The Mayfair Civic Association (“MCA”) was excited to host its 3rd AnnualEaster Egg Hunt along with the Friends of Mayfair Memorial Playground (at Lincoln High School)The Easter Egg Hunt was postponed from its original date of Saturday, March 16, 2013 to Sunday, March 17, 2013 due to severe weather.

Postponing the Easter Egg Hunt meant a sunny, if not chilly, day for all the participating children and their parents. "We had approximately 500 kids from the surrounding neighborhood and even from outside the city come to our playground. Along with their families, we had over 1000 people come through the gates of the MMP to raise awareness for our fundraising goals and to take part in a great family event."  MCA President JoeDeFelice stated. “It's an event that caters to a large percentage of our neighborhood; the families and the children. It also helps keep the focus on our neighborhood so that people don't have to seek out these activities in other areas since they are right here in Mayfair. The MCA have really put a lot of planning into neighborhood events and want to try to do one event per month. From the Easter Egg Hunt, the May Fair, the Fallen Heroes Run, the Halloween Spooktacular, and all the way to the Christmas Tree Lighting in December; we want to keep people engaged and invested in the fabric of the community."

This event, along with the Halloween Spooktacular in October, are the main fund raising events for the Mayfair Memorial Playground at Lincoln High SchoolAll proceeds raised go towards the goal of installing a 7-foot fence around the playground, ongoing maintenance, and the purchase of a new piece of equipment. After 3 years of aggressive fundraising the MMP had its first piece of equipment installed on October 27, 2011 with help from national non-profit, KaBOOM! and a generous grant from GIANT Food Stores. The Easter Egg Hunt was the brainchild of the Mayfair Civic AssociationPlayground Committee in 2011, who felt the best way to showcase the progress made at the playground would be to host a large community event at that location.

Playground Committee members Melinda MulvennaDana Lambieand Mia Hylan, along with numerous community volunteers, many of them with children or grandchildren of their own, had been working for weeks in conjunction with the rest of the Mayfair Civic Association to make the event even better for this year.

Each child received a goodie bag for their participation and bake sale was hosted on the premises. Along with many community volunteers who baked or donated cookies, cupcakes and other sweet treats, GIANT Food Stores donated 200 cupcakes and the Optimist Club of Philadelphia also donated 12 dozen cupcakes to be sold at the Bake Sale. The Easter Bunny was present along with a coloring table, games, raffle prizes and giveawaysThe Mayfair Civic Association believes that the main focus of this event is tocontinue to raise awareness to the playground's plight of long-term maintenance and to add more equipment to the playground. The MCA and Playground Committee continue to welcome any donations that come their way.

This event helps to highlight an exciting year for Mayfair, accentuates the positivethings that continue to happen in the Mayfair community and is just another reason that Mayfair is a great place to live, work and play.************************
